2023 Property Tax Apportionment

 Where do my property taxes go? This is a question everyone wants to know the answer to. To help property owners make sense of their bill, we have provided information below to assist in understanding where each of your tax dollars goes.

The Village collects taxes for four other taxing jurisdictions that establish their own budgets and levies. These other jurisdictions are the two school districts (Hamilton or Menomonee Falls depending on your location), the Waukesha County Technical College, and Waukesha County. For 2023’s tax bill:

46% goes to the Village of Butler

44% goes to the school district

9% goes to the County

1% goes to the Waukesha County Technical College

Of that 46% that goes to the Village:

38% goes to the Police Department

19% goes to contracted services

14% goes towards debit service

9% goes to public works

8% goes to general government including elections, licensing, administration. etc

7% goes towards capital expenditures

4% goes to the Library

and 1% goes to Park and Recreation
